Here are some of the questions from Chapter B of Part I (Theory). Het ABC van Reiki contains a total of 817 questions and answers about all the "ins and outs" of Reiki, making it the most comprehensive reference book about Reiki.
13. What is Reiki?
1.The Japanese word Reiki literally means "universal energy". Rei means "universal" and Ki means "energy".
2.Reiki is a method of working with energy.
When the word Reiki is used in this book, it refers to the method of working with energy.
14. What does Reiki do?
Reiki is a method to take in energy from the energy field and to use it for yourself or others. At the physical level, each human has an immune system that has the ability to defend the body against foreign material, such as viruses and bacteria. This effort is fueled by energy, among other things. We know that if our immune system is functioning properly, we will be less susceptible to a cold or a virus and will recover more quickly if we do get ill.
At the mental level, energy increases your inner strength, which helps you feel good, which in turn has an effect on your health.
In other words, Reiki supports the self-healing ability of both the body and the mind.
15. How does Reiki work?
By nature (meaning from birth), everyone is able to take in energy from the energy field. This ability is being inhibited to a greater or lesser extent by various causes, as a result of which we are no longer able to take in enough energy. This is caused by our upbringing, culture, religion, the way we perceive nature and personal experiences. Reiki restores the ability to take in energy and thus helps you to take in energy better.
16. Do you have to have a special gift to be able to work with Reiki?
No, absolutely not. We are all part of the energy field and we all consist of energy. Reiki is a method to work with this energy and everyone can learn this method.
17. Do you have to believe in Reiki?
No, you do not have to believe in Reiki. The experiences you will have over time will automatically convince you. You can have a treatment or take a course even if you do not believe in it at all. People are rarely convinced by words alone.
23. What is the difference between magnetizing and Reiki?
People who magnetize work with the same energy as people who use Reiki. However, if people who magnetize are not attuned properly to the energy field, it is possible that they give away their own energy supply. This has to do with the fact that they give away more than they are able to take in from the energy field. If you apply the Reiki method, you will never give away your own energy, because when giving a treatment, the energy will pass through your channel and therefore you will receive at the same time. You will notice that, when you are tired and still decide to give someone else a treatment, you too will feel better after the treatment. That is not always the case with magnetizing, although there are undoubtedly be examples of magnetizers who never suffer from energy loss, because they are by nature able to take in enough energy from the energy field.
38. What is a treatment?
A treatment is an act during which the person being treated is usually sitting on a chair or lying on a special treatment table, while the person giving the treatment either lays on his hands or keeps them just above different parts of the body of the person being treated. The practitioner only acts as a channel for the energy, the person being treated is the one who determines, at a subconscious level, how the energy is used and how much energy is needed. The practitioner is therefore only an intermediary for the energy field.

39. How long does a treatment last?
There are no set time-limits for a treatment. A treatment can vary from about 5 minutes up to 90 minutes.
A treatment in a professional (Reiki) practice will last approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
In daily use, Reiki will often be quickly fit in between other activities. An example of a quick treatment is the Reiki chakra treatment, during which several large energy points are treated and which takes a total of approximately 20 minutes. See Chapter E (Part I: Practice).
41. Can I get too much energy from a treatment?
No, you can never get too much energy from a treatment because the energy system regulates energy absorption. When it is completely filled, nothing more can be added. Even if you would give someone energy 24 hours a day, it still would not do any harm. The moment your system has received enough energy, it will automatically stop taking in energy.
